Health Insurance with Company Contribution

All full-time employees are eligible to enroll in Sargent’s Health Insurance Plan(s) on the first of the month following 60 days of employment. Our Health Insurance Plan is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account option. The company pays a portion of the employee and dependent premiums.

Health Savings Account with Company Contribution

Our High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) includes an optional Health Savings Account (HSA). The HSA is funded by employee’s pre-tax contributions and matching company contributions. For each dollar an employee contributes to their HSA, the company will match up to $400. The dollars in your HSA account can be used for qualified medical expenses for you and your eligible family members. Employees may be eligible for other contributions if they participate in the wellness program and/or meet certain health benchmarks.

Reimbursement for Waiving Health Insurance

Any employee who waives coverage with the Sargent Corporation Group Medical Plan and has other coverage with a fully insured medical plan, other than SARGENT CORPORATION’S plan, is eligible to receive $200 each month. This reimbursement is not available if your spouse/parent is also employed by SARGENT CORPORATION or its affiliates, and you are covered on his/her plan.

Voluntary Dental Insurance

Voluntary Dental Insurance is available to all full-time employees and their dependents on the first of the month following 60 days of employment. There is a $350 vision benefit included in this insurance coverage that can be used to pay for glasses, frames or contact lenses. You may use this benefit to pay for glasses, frames or contact lenses.

401(k) Retirement Plan with Company Match

SARGENT CORPORATION offers all employees a 401(k) Retirement Plan with a company match of 50% on the first 6% contributed. Your money will be invested in the most appropriate life cycle fund or Fidelity Freedom Fund based on your age. A Roth 401(k) option is available in the Sargent Corporation 401(k) Retirement Plan. If you are in a lower tax bracket now than you anticipate being in the future, you may benefit by contributing to the Roth. 

Life Insurance, AD&D, and Voluntary Life Insurance

Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance is available for all full-time employees at no cost to the employee. Voluntary Supplemental Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance is available on the first day of the month following 60 days. Premiums for Voluntary Life Insurance and AD&D are paid after-tax via payroll deduction at the employee’s own expense. Voluntary Supplemental Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance is also available for purchase through payroll deduction for employee spouses and children.

Voluntary Disability Coverage (STD & LTD)

Voluntary Short Term Disability & Voluntary Long-Term Disability Insurance is available to all full-time employees. The cost for coverage is individualized and is dependent on your age and your earnings. Premiums for Disability Insurance are paid via payroll deduction on a post tax basis, making the benefit non-taxable. Employees are eligible to elect coverage on the first of the month following 60 days of employment.

Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)

Effective April 30, 2013, the Company (Sargent Corporation/Sargent Materials, SC Holdings) established an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to give its employees a meaningful stake in the company at no cost to them. The ESOP, a retirement plan in which a trust hold stock for its Beneficiaries, The Employee-Owners, will provide employees with the opportunity to share in the growth and profitability of the companies for years to come. An employee will become eligible to participate after completing six months of service and working 1,000 hours.

Wellness Program with Incentives

SARGENT CORPORATION offers a voluntary, confidential wellness program to provide valuable information and resources to those who choose to develop healthy lifestyle habits. By being more proactive than reactive in our approach to personal health, individuals can improve their quality of life which can afford them a healthy life and a healthy retirement. Sargent provides incentives for those who meet with their primary care doctor and get their scheduled preventive exams - up to $800 per year for employees and their spouses enrolled in the company’s health insurance plan, or $250 for those who are not enrolled. Sargent also provides a once per year, partial reimbursement, for wellness related purchases.

Holiday Pay

The Company observes the following paid Holidays:

  • New Year's Day       
  • Memorial Day      
  • July 4th
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day / The Day After Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

All eligible hourly employees will receive 8 hours of pay at their regular rate for each of the above holidays. Eligibility for holiday pay is immediate. To be eligible to receive holiday pay, you must work (or be available to work) on the last scheduled workday before and the first scheduled workday after the holiday.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

SARGENT CORPORATION recognizes the importance of giving employees time off for rest, relaxation, and personal/family needs, including sickness. The company has established a Paid Time Off (PTO) policy to meet those needs.

  •  After 90 Days               5 days / 40 hours
  •  After 1 Year                 10 days / 80 hours
  •  After 5 Years               15 days / 120 hours
  •  After 10 Years             20 days / 160 hours
  •  After 15 Years             22 days / 176 hours
  •  After 18 Years             25 days / 200 hours

Workforce Development & Advancement

At SARGENT CORPORATION, good people are the key to our success! It is our goal to teach employees not just the basics, but to also help them advance their careers. Starting from the ground up we offer Sargent Construction Academy for recent high school grads, Summer Internships for college students and ongoing training for employees to further develop their skills through seminars and meetings held during the off season, and prior to the beginning of the construction season.

Guaranteed 40 Hour Week

Field hourly employees will be guaranteed weekly pay equal to their straight-time rate multiplied by 40 for those weeks in which they are available for work. This benefit is subject to certain conditions and must meet established criteria. This policy is intended to guarantee minimum weekly pay for those weeks in which work is available. It should not be construed to guarantee the number of weeks in a year for which work will be available.

Travel Pay

SARGENT CORPORATION will provide its employees rooms utilizing double occupancy when employees are assigned to projects more than 60 miles from home. Further, employees will be reimbursed for travel expense in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • 0-40 miles from home             $0 per day
  • 41-60 miles from home           $.15/mile roundtrip each day
  • 61-175 miles from home         Double occupancy room, $20/per day meals and incidentals per diem and $.15/mile roundtrip each week
  • 176-300 miles from home       Double occupancy room, $30/per day meals and incidentals per diem and $.15/mile roundtrip each week
  • 300+ miles from home            Determined on a project-by-project basis

Protective Eye & Footwear Reimbursement

All new employees are eligible for a one time reimbursement of up to $40 for safety-toe boots. This benefit should be redeemed within the first 30 days of employment. For those employees who wear prescription eyeglasses, every two years the Company will reimburse employees who purchase prescription safety glasses with permanently attached side-shields at the following reimbursement levels:

  • $125 for single lens safety eyeglasses
  • $135 for bi-focal safety eyeglasses
  • $150 for tri-focal safety eyeglasses

Scholarship Opportunities

SARGENT CORPORATION has 2 scholarship opportunities available to spouses and children of full-time employees. The Herbert E. Sargent Scholarship is used to provide scholarship assistance to undergraduate or graduate students with either a financial need or a high academic standing at the University of Maine in Orono. The Sargent Corporation Scholarship is used to provide scholarship aid for deserving graduate or undergraduate students attending any educational institution (except the University of Maine at Orono) offering at least a two year degree, including community colleges and trades schools.
